Malaysia is the second-largest Oil & Gas producer in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and one of the world’s top LNG producers. The industry is characterised by PETRONAS’ stability and an emphasis on enhanced oil recovery, marginal fields and deep-water developments, making Malaysia an attractive market for higher-value services. The country possesses a strong ecosystem of services and equipment companies that support the needs of the Oil & Gas value chain, both domestically and regionally.
Throughout 2011 and 2014, there was a clear trend of services and equipment companies acquiring assets while also expanding their services capabilities. This in return has assisted Malaysia’s progress towards achieving its goal of becoming a regional centre for Oil & Gas services and equipment. The Government has been supportive towards the industry and this is shown through the Federal and State Governments’ co-operation to facilitate investment in the form of tax incentives. They have also helped to support infrastructure and ease bureaucratic processes.
This shows the long-term perspective and the importance of this industry for Malaysia. Kuala Lumpur has been the significant choice for many Oil & Gas events and it helped in boosting a good working relationship between Malaysia and all major international centres around the world to ensure a continued flow of investments and co-operation. MOGSEC is one of the prominent event and its’ uniqueness is identified by the concept of Malaysian capabilities championed by Malaysians.
In view of the favourable market conditions, MOGSEC was launched in 2012 by the country’s premier trade association The Malaysian Oil & Gas Services Council (MOGSC). MOGSC’s agenda was to use MOGSEC as a platform to help elevate Malaysia into the region’s Oil & Gas hub. Showcasing locally based technology and services, MOGSEC has gone from strength to strength, with the 2014 event growing 32% in exhibitors and 40% growth in visitors. MOGSEC 2016 will continue to cement Malaysia’s strategic regional position in the Oil & Gas service sector, and we are confident the show will continue to grow and prosper in line with Malaysia’s increasing relevance.
