The 11th Malaysia Plan aims to expand Malaysia’s GDP by 5-6% per annum from the year 2016 to 2020, special incentives by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) of up to RM1.3 billion funds have been placed to further encourage local innovation through R&D.
Strengthening Malaysia’s Economy through R&D
- R&D funds allocated by Government, ie. TechnoFund, ScienceFund, InnoFun, Technology Acquisition Fund (TAF) and others.
- Improving R&D Human Resources and Skills with Scholarships to produce 60,000 Malaysian PhDs by 2025.
- Malaysian Global Innovation and Creativity Centre (MaGIC) initiated to help domestic and international entrepreneurs with USD 35.7 million.
- Nine R&D Priority Areas established: Biodiversity, Cybersecurity, Energy, Environment, Food, Medical & Healthcare, Plantation, Transportation, Water.
